Today we have another wonderful written piece from Jeanne Claire Probst, in our continuing literary series. We are thrilled to have author/poet/blogger Jeanne Claire Probst join Bethel Advocate as a contributor, sharing her “Thought and Poem” written works with us. Her work covers many topics. She is excited to be fulfilling a life-long dream of writing a novel of which “The Fifteen Houses, a Novel” is her first published work. I think you will enjoy! THOUGHT AND POEM

Wednesdays may be “Prince Spaghetti Day” for many, but for me Wednesday has been designated my “Laundry Day!” Hurray for me.
If the truth be made know, I actually enjoy doing the laundry. Perhaps this is why I have taken it upon myself to not let anyone help me with this household chore. There is a special kind of satisfaction in seeing the hampers empty and when I am folding the clean clothes it tends to relax me. No psychiatrist, no medications and no appointments are necessary. Just pop the lid of the washer… throw the dirty clothes in… add soap (if I remember) and press the start button. When they are done washing… they go in the dryer and when dried… you fold them and put them away. I just love doing the laundry.
What I didn’t like about “Laundry Day,” when my children all lived at home, was the fact that when I brought all the nicely folded clothes to their owners in their individual bedrooms… it could get depressing. For some reason, my children never learned how to put the clean clothes in their dressers and they often ended up back on the floor next to the hamper in their rooms… many times still folded!
I dared not open any of the closet doors as I knew there would be more laundry on the floors and this would greatly add to my depression. So, I would take a deep breath as I left the clean clothes on the dressers and walk back out of their rooms.
After years of this routine, I finally decided I would go see a psychiatrist and get medication that would help me deal with the trauma and drama I would have to endure when I broke down and taught my children how to do their own laundry! They were each assigned a different laundry day to reduce any possibility of them fighting over the washer and dryer. The transitions went smoothly, but I needed a little more than the medications I got from the psychiatrist. Shhh… don’t tell anyone but the cupboard in the laundry room is where I keep my emergency supply of “TWINKIES!”

Today is my “laundry” day…
And I must say…
Laundry is a never ending chore…
Because when you think you are done…you always find more!
Delivering the clean clothes to where they belong…
I am shocked…as Just when I thought the job was done…
I learn I am totally wrong…
I open my children’s bedroom doors…
And again, I see dirty laundry on the floors!
A few tears begin falling from my eyes…
And I get this sick feeling inside…
I can’t believe after all these years I have been doing this chore…
I failed to teach my children what the hampers in their rooms are used for.
Then I stop myself from getting depressed…
I tell myself there is no need to get stressed…
As I am going to go one step further when my children get home…
I am going to introduce them to the washer and dryer in the Laundry Room!

The Fifteen Houses, a Novel
The Fifteen Houses is the first book of this new and exciting series to be published. Staged in the beautiful and scenic palate of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, in the early 1950’s, the main character delves into her reoccurring and discomforting memories of her younger, formative years. Searching for answers to questions that have resurfaced in her mind over and over again during her time away from her family, she seeks to find rhyme and reasons to her insecurities, anger, phobias, fears, and life’s choices. Julianne Marguerite, one of eleven children, is determined to uncover the “mystery” that resulted in the downfall of her family. As you turn the pages in the book, each series of memories, will open a different door, to the different homes, (“Fifteen” to be exact).
