On May 16, 2016 Bethel Police responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on RT 53.  The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle died as a result of the crash.

Update: On May 16, 2016 Bethel Police responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on RT 53.  The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle died as a result of the crash.  Police have identified the driver as 24 year old male, David M. Wood of Mountain View Avenue, Ridgefield, CT.  The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Original story:  On Monday, May 16, 2016 a man driving a Toyota sedan hit a tree on Route 53 near the Redding border, the car erupted into flames. The driver was extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews and taken to Danbury Hospital, according to Bethel Police Captain Steve Pugner.  The cause of the crash is unknown at this time but if anyone has any information, call Officer Jason Broad at 203-743-5500, Ext. 206.
