Report by Paula Antolini,  December 14, 2018, 10:54AM EDT

The suspect (shown above) in the murder of a 25-year-old Bethel woman in Bridgeport has been identified as 26-year-old Brandon Roberts and is now in police custody.

Police detectives traveled to Ohio and arrested Roberts early this morning charging him with the murder of 25-year-old Emily Todd, of Bethel.  Roberts had traveled out of state and was staying at his father’s home in Shaker Heights, Ohio, according to police. Roberts is charged with murder, felony murder, robbery in the first degree, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Bethel resident and Bethel High School graduate Emily Todd was found murdered on December 8, 2018, in Bridgeport, CT, near the launch ramp at Seaview and Newfield Avenues. She was shot in the back of the head and neck area and was already deceased when found at the scene.

Police expect that Roberts will be extradited back to Connecticut soon.

Relative Greg Henry posted the following statement on social media:

As we begin the heart wrenching process of saying goodbye to Em, I wanted to share a small sliver of comfort that we received early this morning.

The amount of gratitude that we feel towards all of the men and women that have literally worked around the clock to bring this savage animal to justice is more than can be expressed in words. In 5 days, across two states, law enforcement were focused on bringing justice for Emily.

Again, thank you again for the support and love shown to my entire family over past few days. It will be a long, difficult journey for Jenn but with continued thoughts and prayers, she will find a way to make it day by day.

We will be receiving friends and family today at Bethel Funeral home from 4pm-7pm and tomorrow morning at Bethel United Methodist Church at 11am. All are welcome and appreciated.
