Congratulations Bill! On the evening of March 23, 2016, the annual meeting was held by the Bethel Republican Town Committee (BRTC) to elect officers for the 2016-2017 term. Bill Hillman was elected to serve as the new chairman of the BRTC. Hillman, 60, has been a member of the BRTC since 2009 and is a 24-year Bethel resident.

On the evening of March 23, 2016, the annual meeting was held by the Bethel Republican Town Committee (BRTC) to elect officers for the 2016-2017 term. Bill Hillman was elected to serve as the new chairman of the BRTC. Congratulations Bill! Hillman, 60, has been a member of the BRTC since 2009 and is a 24-year Bethel resident.

Newly elected chair Bill Hillman, thanked the packed room at Town Hall for the honor to serve. Citing as his goal to grow the Republican base and win elections, Hillman was joined vice chair Richard Merrritt, James L’Hernault as Treasurer, and Autumn Waggoner as Secretary.
After thanking the outgoing RTC chair, Will Duff and outgoing vice chair A.J. Bernard, the BRTC heard presentations from candidates for Congress, the Probate Court and other dignitaries.
Hillman is succeeding BRTC Chairman Will Duff, who served from 2014-2016, who chose not to continue his chairman position this year. Duff plans on seeking the CT State Representative seat after CT State Representative Dan Carter just announced (unofficially, and will make official announcement in April in Hartford) he would not run for the next election because he is considering a U.S. Senate position. Will Duff stated, “Now that we have united all the factions with in the Republican Party under one roof my task is done, Bill Hillman now has a solid foundation to take the Bethel Republicans to the next level.”
Present at the BRTC meeting were Selectman Paul Szatkowski, Larry Craybas, and Bruce Cornwell, chairs of the Boards of Education and Finance, bearing testimony to effective leadership as the Town of Bethel finalizes its budget for the April 4th Annual Town Meeting and referendum. Mindful of the state of the economy, the Republican led boards, along with multi-partisan support and the Board of Selectman have proposed a budget that will not increase the tax burden to home and business owners for the ensuing year.
Paul Improta, currently a member of the RTC and past chairman 2004-2014, owner of The Insurance Center and CT Boat Insurance, said, “Bill Hillman was seated as the new chairman of the RTC and immediately took command, laying out his plans to remake the Republican brand in town, particularly focusing on communication to our younger residents and those who choose to remain unaffiliated who align with the GOP fundamentals of lower taxes and limited government. Bill is looking to activate the GOP, and that means being involved and having a bigger appeal and share in the successes. Recognizing that the RTC is all about getting Republicans elected to office, that also means being active in the selection of candidates for the district’s state and federal office and helping those candidate win.”
With the Presidential primary on April 26th, Hillman hopes to reach out to unaffiliated, Republican and cross over voters to join the party, sign up and vote in this most important primary.
“Democracy isn’t a spectator sport,” Hillman noted. “You need to vote to be part of the ‘game’.”

As part of its non-partisan outreach, the honorees for this event will be Library Director Lynn Rosato, Stuart Carlsen and Don Goodrich for their many years of service to our community.
