After a Summer of ALS Ice Bucket Challenges, Murphy and Blumenthal to Discuss Upcoming Legislation to Fund ALS and Other Critical Medical Research

Senators Blumenthal and Murphy will be at the DeKoven House Community Center to discuss the need to fully fund disease research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), as well as the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association’s ongoing efforts to fight the disease. The event will take place on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 12:00 p.m., at 27 Washington Street, Middletown, CT.

Murphy’s press release on August 28, 2014 stated “This summer, countless individuals have participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness about ALS. Later this year, Congress will debate legislation to fund the government for Fiscal Year 2015, including disease research at the National Institutes of Health. A portion of the funding that Congress will need to approve will go toward ALS research. However, the agency’s budget has effectively been cut by 22 percent over the past decade, making it more difficult for researchers to obtain grants to study life threatening diseases.”
