APRIL EVENTS

Apr. 16 COFFEEHOUSE: 
WCSU will present the Midtown Coffeehouse at 8 p.m. in Alumni Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The coffeehouse will feature WXCI 91.7 Open Mic Night. Apr. 17 BRONX ZOO TRIP (WCSU students and guests only): 
The WCSU Honors Student Organization will host a trip to the Bronx Zoo 2300 Southern Blvd. in Bronx, New York. The bus will depart the Midtown campus at 8:15 a.m. and leave the Bronx at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for WCSU students and $65 for guests, and are on sale now at the Information Desk in the Midtown Student Center, 181 White St. in Danbury. A Total Experience Tiicket includes round-trip bus transportation and admission and unlimited access to special rides and attractions available during the date of visit. It may include the 4D Theater, Jungle World, Shuttle Rides, Wild Asia Monorail, Children’s Zoo, Congo Gorilla Forest, Butterfly Garden, Bug Carousal and the Dinosaur Safari, depending on the weather. Apr. 17 – 19 CONSIGNMENT EVENT: 
The Connecticut Kids Closet will hold a spring consignment event in the Feldman Arena of the O’Neill Center on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. From 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, there will be a pre-sale for charity. Entry will be gained with a $10 donation or a bag of non-perishable groceries. The public will be admitted for free from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. The event will include thousands of new and second-hand children’s clothes, shoes, toys, games, bikes, books, strollers, high chairs, changing tables, gliders, bedding, baby gear and more. Apr. 18 FLUTE MASTERCLASS: 
The Ives Concert Flutists will host a Flute Masterclass with Susan Hoeppner at noon in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Apr. 19 CHUCK’S MINI-MUDDER: 
The WCSU Recreation Office, Health Promotion and Exercise Sciences Department and the Student Government Association will host “Chuck’s Mini-Mudder” on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. in the Westside Athletic Complex. Heats will begin at 8 a.m. and will occur in 15-minute intervals. The event will begin and end on the turf field of the stadium and will include 16 physical challenges over the course of two miles, many of which are covered in mud. Registration is $15 per person before April 10 and $20 per person after April 10. WCSU students can participate for free with valid I.D. Participants must be 12 years old and up. Apr. 20 THE CHALLENGE (WCSU campus community only): 
The Newbury Hall staff will host “The Challenge,” a campus-wide event that resembles the “Real World/Road Rules Challenge” in a fun and cultured way. The event will begin at White Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Groups of four people will compete in a race around the campus in multiple challenges, which will include strength, logic, problem-solving, teamwork and agility. The event aims to bring awareness of mental health resources and coping strategies to college campuses through interactive expo booths, free food, entertainment, prizes and giveaways. The WCSU Chamber Singers, conducted by Kevin Jay Isaacs and the Concert Choir, conducted by Cory Ganschow will perform at 8 p.m. in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The program will focus on the theme of DUSK to DAWN. Legendary jazz pianist Kenny Barron will be the guest performer with the WCSU Jazz Orchestra in concert on Friday, April 24. The WCSU Program Activities Council will host comedian-hypnotist Eric Mina at 9:30 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Mina is an internationally known entertainer who will change the way people think about hypnosis. He received a psychology degree from Penn State University and is a Certified Hypnotherapist who has performed in Australia, Las Vegas and Times Square, where his off-Broadway show, “Perspective” was featured for six months. WCSU will host the March of Dimes “March for Babies” at 10 a.m. at Ives Concert Park on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Money raised at the event supports programs that help women have healthy, full-term pregnancies and funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten babies. Apr. 26 OOZABALL TOURNAMENT (WCSU students only): 
The Recreation Council will host the second mud volleyball tournament, “Oozeball,” at noon on the grass recreation field on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. “Oozeball” incorporates the love of playing in a 10-inch deep mud pit with the competitive nature of volleyball. Pre-registration is required and only current WCSU students may participate. The WCSU Solo and Ensemble Festival will enable music students from ages 11-18 to sing and perform for WCSU’s outstanding music faculty in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall at the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The event is open to all piano, band, orchestra, jazz and choral students from 5th grade through high school seniors. Students will prepare a solo or small ensemble (up to 13 players) of their choosing to be performed live. VISITOR PARKING ADVISORY: Western Connecticut State University offers several convenient, centrally located parking spaces for visitors to the university’s Midtown and Westside campuses in Danbury. Midtown visitor parking is in the lot next to Old Main and in designated spaces next to University Hall. Parking in the university’s White Street and Fifth Avenue garages is restricted to students, faculty and staff with hang-tags and/or parking stickers from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; visitors are welcome to park in the garages all other times. Westside visitor parking is on University Boulevard. Visitors who cannot be accommodated in these parking areas are asked to call the University Police Department to make other arrangements.
