OBITUARY

Violet Joan Maiga Mattone

July 21, 1934 – January 2nd, 2024

Violet Joan Maiga Mattone, 89, of Bethel, CT passed away on January 2nd, 2024, in Rockledge, Florida, in the presence of beloved family members.

Violet was born July 21, 1934, the daughter of Clarence and Emily Maiga. A lifelong Bethel resident, she graduated from Bethel High School in 1952 and wed the late John Mattone, to whom she was married for 57 years. She spent her childhood helping around Elmwood Grove Country Club, in Bethel, her parents’ business. This included the recreational area known as King Lake where visitors would picnic and enjoy lake activities.

Violet loved the town of Bethel, and she served as the Executive Director of the Bethel Chamber of Commerce for over 40 years. She was a charter member of the Bethel Women’s Club and an active member of many local organizations including the Bethel Homemakers Club and the Housatonic Valley Tourism Association. A memorable milestone was her work on Paul Newman’s film “Rachel Rachel” in 1968, working as a stand-in for both Joanne Woodward and Estelle Parsons. She also served as a volunteer at the Regional Hospice of Connecticut and was a member of the Bethel Giving Circle.

Violet is survived by her two daughters: Donna M. Donofree and her husband Brian, and Kathy Schacht and her husband Scott, all of Bethel. A devoted and loving grandmother, she is also survived by her four grandchildren: Matthew Donofree and his wife Julia; Devin Donofree and her husband Jack Flachsbart; Kevin Schacht; Heather Schacht; and her great-granddaughter, Violet Donofree.

Services will be private. There are no calling hours. Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, 5400 Village Drive,Rockledge, FL is handling arrangements.
