OBITUARY

Mauro C. Troetti

October 8, 1943 ~ December 30, 2022 (age 79)

Mauro “Mau” “Poppy” Troetti–devoted husband, father, beloved grandfather, and warmhearted brother, uncle, and friend, of Bethel, CT passed peacefully at the age 79 on Friday December 30, 2022 at Danbury Hospital.

Mauro was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Theresa Troetti of the Bronx, NY, as well as his sister, Susan Troetti and his brother, Michael Troetti. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Landi); their children Lauren & husband Denis Adiletti in Roxbury, CT and Christopher & wife Danielle Troetti in Danbury, CT; his biggest fans: grandchildren Ava & Nicholas Adiletti, Joseph, Sienna, & Christopher Troetti; his brother Frank and wife Anne Troetti of Yonkers, brother-in-law and wife, Anthony and Donna Landi, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Having grown up in the Bronx and Mount Vernon, Mauro excelled in baseball and football, passions that he passed to his family. He graduated from A.B. Davis in 1962, then honorably served our country from 1964 – 1970 as a Military Police Officer, qualifying as an expert rifleman and pistol marksman.

Soon thereafter, Mauro married the love of his life, Janet, on May 13th, 1967. Although he retained the accent, the two left the Bronx to settle and raise their children, Lauren Jennifer and Christopher Mauro, in Bethel, CT, where they resided for over 50 years.

During his half-century in Bethel, he served the community with pride in many roles: Officer In Charge of the U.S. Post Office, coach for youth baseball, softball, and football, member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Catholic War Veterans, and American Legion Post 100, in addition to being a faithful parishioner at St. Mary’s R.C. Church. He was especially fond of his work raising money through a yearly golf tournament for the American Legion Scholarship Fund, granted to multiple qualifying Bethel High School graduates.

He enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and shenanigans with dear friends at local favorites such as the Sycamore, Jacqueline’s, and Armando’s. Special tables, coffee mugs, and wine glasses probably heard more than their fair share of jokes, medical stories, and politics than the groups will admit. He anticipated outings and holidays with his brother, their family, Janet’s family, and the nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews who lovingly called him, “Unc.”

Mauro adored his family and looked forward to celebrating special times as well as random moments with Janet, their children and grandchildren, their extended family, friends, in-laws, neighbors, and just about anyone else who wanted to break bread or root for the Yankees or Giants. Poolside, at the Jersey shore, on a golf course, around a folding table in the garage, at a restaurant, on the sidelines of BHS’s DeSantis Field, even in his own armchair or dining room, Mauro was ready to enjoy life.

Was Mauro always a party? “Are you kiddin’ me?” Sometimes he was “gabadost.” But thank God, because he stubbornly fought for his health, and was stubbornly passionate & indiscriminately proud of his family. Mauro told everyone–everyone–about how proud he was of Janet, Lauren, Chris, Denis, and Danielle, but most of all, the joys of his life, Ava, Joseph, Nicholas, Sienna, and Christopher–sometimes for their accomplishments, and many times just for the gift of them. Mauro knew what mattered, and cherished his loved ones and friends.
