OBITUARY

Jeffrey E. Lawrence

1954 ~ 2021 (age 66)

Jeffrey Elliott Lawrence, sixty-six years old, from Bethel, passed away suddenly. He was with his family and will be missed by many. Jeff was born in Bridgeport, CT on October 25, 1954, son of the late Donald and Anne Lawrence and sister Susan Monack. Jeff is survived by Cindy, his soul mate and loving wife and three children, Bennett, Danielle and Jeremy. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, who he loved unconditionally, Kevin, Brian and Sydney.

Jeff was a graduate of the Wooster School in 1972, in Danbury, CT and attended Denver University in Colorado and majored in communications. He moved to Bethel in 1988. He was the Voice of the Bethel High School Wildcats for the last few decades serving as the PA announcer at Bethel High School football and basketball games. Jeff could always be spotted around Bethel High School supporting student-athletes. He was a former Bethel Pop Warner Coach for 18 years and the President of Pop Warner in Bethel and Ridgefield. He was devoted to his community, church and youth sports. Jeff had a zest for life. He and Cindy spent many wonderful years traveling to Cape Cod, Colorado and every sporting event and concert in the area and most recently to Farm Aid.  He loved classic rock and classical music and was a member of the choir at the First Congregational Church in Bethel. He adored the Green Bay Packers and when visiting Lambeau Field said, “this is what heaven must feel like”. After Jeff stopped coaching he decided to continue to be connected to the community and became a bus driver. “Mr. Jeff” was a beloved bus driver in Bethel and drove Bus #7 for over a decade. He was also the Safety Officer for the bus company, First Student. Jeff always said, “I wish I had been a bus driver all of my life”. Anyone who was on Bus #7 felt lucky to have him as their driver.

Family and friends will most remember Jeff for his generosity and genuine kind heart. Everyone who met him held him in high regard and his loyalty and quiet strength were an inspiration to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his colleagues, friends, and the students who crossed paths with him in the Bethel Public Schools and in the community. The family would like to thank all those who shared in Jeff’s life.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Putnam House (12 Depot Place, Bethel), on Tuesday, October 26 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
