NWS Freeze Watch with Gusty Winds in Effect for Weds. Night to Thurs. Morning

A strong cold front will move across the Tri-State area today. Ahead of the front, temperatures will warm into the upper 50s and lower 60s and there will be breezy west winds. There could be a few showers as the cold front moves across the region.

Gusty northwest winds in the wake of the front tonight will usher in the coldest air mass of the season. Canadian high pressure will build towards the area through Thursday. Temperatures tonight will fall into the lower 30s inland and the middle and upper 30s elsewhere. The cold temperatures will continue on Thursday as highs struggle to reach 50 degrees, despite mostly sunny skies. These temperatures are about 15 degrees below normal for the middle of October.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Freeze Watch, which is in effect from October 18, 04:00 AM EDT until October 18, 09:00 AM EDT. This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey and southeast New York.

A Freeze Watch means below freezing temperatures are possible. Temperatures are expected in the low 30’s. Freezing temperatures could kill sensitive vegetation.

Temperatures will moderate back into the middle and upper 50s on Friday as the high pressure passes to our south.
