Saturday, January 4th, a “FIRST LAP of RELAY FOR LIFE 2020” occurred in Bethel, and across the world, for the American Cancer Society (ACS).
Members of the Bethel “Relay For Life of Greater Danbury” gathered at Famous Pizza today, January 4, 2020, then did a FIRST LAP in Bethel.
Today’s event is part of a worldwide kick-off to raise awareness and boost participation. Relay for Life provides a way to celebrate, remember, and fight back in honor of all those who have fought or continue to battle cancer.
The Bethel lap was dedicated to Bethel resident Teresa Fogel, 65, American Cancer Society Relay For Life volunteer for years, and organizer and host of the Relay For Life Survivors and Caregivers Luncheon, who passed away on December 27, 2019, after a courageous two-month battle with cancer. Fogel dedicated her life to community service and was also a member and leader of the Community Emergency Response team (CERT), Connecticut State Animal Response Team (CTSART) and the American Red Cross.
The ACS event raises money for the American Cancer Society. ACS raises money for cancer research and support services for cancer patients and their families.
During 2020 Relayers across the world will walk over 1 million laps to symbolize HOPE and in search for a CURE. That journey begins here.
