Boucher: ‘Voices Matter, Public Input Cannot Be Ignored.’ Getting Our State Budget Under Control

boucherportraitMessage from Senator Toni Boucher:

Today was a resounding success.

We showed that our voices matter and that public input cannot be ignored.

Our public information hearing on the Democrats’ proposed tax hikes shook up the State Capitol.

We made lawmakers on both sides of the aisle think seriously about what $2.4 billion in new taxes would do to our state.

How did we get the message across?

  • Over 5,000 people signed our petition to say “no” to new taxes and tax hikes

  • Over 800 people submitted written testimony

  • Over 100 individuals signed up to testify in person

  • We filled an entire hearing room and needed TWO overflow rooms to accommodate hearing attendees

We’ve made a difference…all thanks to you.

It is our understanding that the governor immediately called a meeting today among Democrats when he saw the impact of our hearing. We hope that this is the start to a serious discussion about getting our state budget under control.

Thank you for making your voice heard.
