Obituary: Joseph Vincent Amaru, 61, of Bethel, CT

OBITUARY

Joseph Vincent Amaru, 61, of Bethel, CT passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on July 21, 2018. Our hearts are broken. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Amy, and his two children, Alex and Alana. He is also survived by his father, Joseph, and his wife Carol; his mother, Helen; his sister Ava; his sister Susan and her husband Michael Demsey; his brother Simeon and his wife Valarie; his sister-in-law Tina and her husband Hal Torman, his father-in-law Alvin Friedman and his beloved dog Jagger. Joe will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Joe grew up in Douglaston, New York and attended Chaminade High School where he ran track and excelled academically. He graduated from Boston College with a degree in business and then moved to New York City.

In 1989, he married the love of his life, Amy, and they lived in New York City for many years.  Joe was a devoted husband, father and friend. After Alex and Alana were born, they moved to Bethel, CT, where they have resided for 22 years. Joe worked in Pharmaceutical Sales and Physician Recruiting for many years, but most recently found the job he loved most with CareMount Medical. Joe’s easy-going nature and his warm and fun personality made him a recognized leader in his field.

One of Joe’s greatest pleasures was being involved in his children’s activities. Whether coaching softball, baseball or basketball, or being an enthusiastic spectator, Joe cherished the times he spent with Alex and Alana.

Joe was an avid Jets fan and never lost hope for them, despite their losing seasons. Joe was also a grill master and enjoyed entertaining family and friends during weekend cookouts and he was a guy you could count on to do anything. He touched many lives and will be missed.

A gathering of friends and family will take place at the Amaru home, 16 Whippoorwill Road, Bethel CT on Wednesday, July 25 from 3-6pm. A celebration of Joe’s life will take place in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with the family and children’s college expenses.  Donations may be made to https://www.gofundme.com/amaru-family-fund
