Today, May 5th, Bethel Public Schools held a staff parade for all of the Bethel students, during the COVID-19 Coronavirus quarantine that still has schools closed.

The event began at the school campus at 10:00 a.m. and ended around 11:30 a. m.. Weather was beautiful, cooler temperatures but the sun was shining brightly.

The parade followed the normal bus routes and included 9 smaller parades, as the buses lead each group around the Town of Bethel and students and families waited by the road hoping to catch a glimpse of their teachers and join in on this very uplifting event.

In addition to about 200 BPS staff members, Bethel Police, Bethel Fire, and school partners at St. Mary’s School were also in the parade.

The parade, spread throughout the community, and came together for the children of Bethel, following social distancing rules.

The Bethel Advocate viewed one small section of the parade at the southern end of Bethel. Cars were seen decorated in balloons and signs made just for the students, some that read, “Mrs. Morgan Misses You!” and “Find Time to Sing and Dance!” and “Keep Doing Your Best!” and “We Love You!”

Teacher Mr. Gill waved to us with his beautiful black Newfoundland dog leaning his head out the back side window, smiling.

The parade was held on “National Teacher Appreciation Day” also known as “National Teacher Day” which recognizes the dedicated educators across the country. As part of “Teacher Appreciation Week” the celebration takes place on the Tuesday of the first full week in May each year.

Happy Teacher Day to all teachers! Thank you for all you are doing to keep our students educated during the quarantine and for all you have done throughout the years.
