Today we have another wonderful written piece from Jeanne Claire Probst, in our continuing literary series. We are thrilled to have author/poet/blogger Jeanne Claire Probst join Bethel Advocate as a contributor, sharing her “Thought and Poem” written works with us. Her work covers many topics. She is excited to be fulfilling a life-long dream of writing a novel of which “The Fifteen Houses, a Novel” is her first published work. I think you will enjoy! THOUGHT AND POEM

You know you are a mother, when you can run circles around your children; you have a schedule to keep. It doesn’t matter if your children are toddlers, teenagers, young adults or even older adults. If they live with you and they are coming with you anywhere outside the house, you can count on leaving late!
Having lived a little longer than our children, we have our morning routine down to a science. We know how many minutes it takes to shower, get dressed, do our hair and make-up and still leave ourselves time to prepare the family breakfast and still have a bite to eat ourselves.
After we leave the table, checked our text messages, and our e-mails, we find that we still have a few minutes left before we have to leave so we, do the dishes, throw in a load of wash, check the dryer, check the fridge to see what we will plan for supper, vacuum the whole downstairs, put the shades up and open the curtains and we do all this BEFORE we see the children or child that is coming with us.
By some grace of God, they finally make their appearance, but always end up going back to their room for something. And just when you are about to burst a bubble, they exclaim they are ready to go. “Come on Mom, we don’t want to be late!”
My daughter over thirty and under forty, has this goal to speed up the time it takes her to get ready. So, when we do finally get to the car she will say things like, “Mom are you surprised that I got ready this morning so fast?” Or, “Mom did you think I was going to get up at all?” “Are you happy?” My response to this is always, “Yes Princess, I knew you could do it!” Any other response would send me over the deep edge! It often takes all the angels in heaven to block words from leaving my mouth and to keep the smile on my face. I think the smile thing… is permanent!
Still we love our children and as a mother I will often look back to the time I carried them and then to their births and the joy of watching them as they grow up. These cherished memories help me in the moment when I am about to burst a bubble!

AM I GOING TO BE LATE?

It ceases to amaze me how I always get a late start, when I have someplace I need to go,
Especially if my daughter is coming with me, I will be late…I know.
Even if I get her up way before the sun comes up,
It may be three hours before we need to leave; this block of time is still not enough.
She usually gets up after hitting the “snooze” button on her alarm after the tenth time,
Just to make sure I am awake and that I haven’t been hitting mine.
Then she goes to her bedroom and gets back under the covers for that extra fifteen minutes of sleep,
While I am trying to dress quickly, so that my schedule I can keep.
I see that Ms. Princess is still grabbing some winks,
So I yell for her to put a rush on getting up, as it is later than she thinks.
Even with still two hours to go before we leave,
I am doubtful that she will be ready, so I ask her to hurry it up…please.
I do up the late-night snack dishes that were still in the sink,
I throw a load of towels into the washer, and add the soap and bleach.
Then I vacuum the whole downstairs and have a small bite to eat,
All the while I can hear Ms. Princess is still getting ready, so I pour myself a cup of tea.
With five minutes to go before we need to leave, Ms. Princess makes her appearance by the door,
But she forgot to brush her teeth, and needs five minutes more.
With her teeth done, she now she ask me how she is doing so far?
I tell her she had one minute to spare….and we both get in the car.

The Fifteen Houses, a Novel
The Fifteen Houses is the first book of this new and exciting series to be published. Staged in the beautiful and scenic palate of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, in the early 1950’s, the main character delves into her reoccurring and discomforting memories of her younger, formative years. Searching for answers to questions that have resurfaced in her mind over and over again during her time away from her family, she seeks to find rhyme and reasons to her insecurities, anger, phobias, fears, and life’s choices. Julianne Marguerite, one of eleven children, is determined to uncover the “mystery” that resulted in the downfall of her family. As you turn the pages in the book, each series of memories, will open a different door, to the different homes, (“Fifteen” to be exact).
