HARTFORD —Today, following President Obama’s announcement, U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) will hold a press conference on new executive actions to reduce gun violence. Yesterday, Murphy and Blumenthal met with President Obama and Attorney General Lynch to discuss the executive actions.
Last month, Murphy and Blumenthal urged the President to eliminate a loophole that currently allows individuals without a federal license to conduct high volumes of gun sales at gun shows, over the internet, and elsewhere, all without conducting background checks. U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-5), Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, and Rep. Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) led a similar effort in the U.S. House of Representatives.
