Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Dan Carter questioned whether Senator Blumenthal uses personal email to conduct official business, following the FBI decision not to pursue legal action against Secretary Clinton.  “As a U.S. Senator and member of the Armed Services Committee, Blumenthal has access to classified information,” Carter said. “I guess the question is, if he thinks what Hillary Clinton did was okay, does he do the same thing?”

(BETHEL, CT, July 6, 2016): Today, Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Dan Carter questioned whether Senator Blumenthal uses personal email to conduct official business, following the FBI decision not to pursue legal action against Secretary Clinton.

“As a U.S. Senator and member of the Armed Services Committee, Blumenthal has access to classified information,” Carter said. “I guess the question is, if he thinks what Hillary Clinton did was okay, does he do the same thing?”

“Does Senator Blumenthal use personal email to conduct official business?” Carter asked.

“We know Governor Malloy does it, maybe that’s why the Connecticut Democrats have gone to such great lengths to avoid the subpoena from the SEEC.”

“If Senator Blumenthal doesn’t believe that skirting the laws of public disclosure are important; or that transparency and accountability in government are critical; or even that some communications about our national security should be handled with care; I guess it begs the question whether this is a practice he himself is using as well,” Carter said.

“Senator Blumenthal has spent his career demanding investigations and accountability for much less crimes,” Carter added. “The fact that he can look at the people of Connecticut without calling for action and accountability in this instance is a slap in the face to the people who’ve grown to trust him.”

“It just goes to show you, there’s rules for the privileged few, and then there’s rules for the rest of us,” Carter said. “It’s too bad Senator Blumenthal doesn’t hold Secretary Clinton to the same standard he holds everyone else.”

“In the last five years Senator Blumenthal has called for transparency and accountability nearly 85 times,” Carter said. “I guess there’s a different standard for his friends in Washington than for the rest of us.”
