Hudson, WI — A 25-year-old former elementary school teacher wept in court Monday as she pleaded guilty to charges of child enticement and sexual misconduct involving a 5th-grade student, authorities said.
Plea Agreement and Charges
Madison Bergmann, formerly employed at River Crest Elementary School, admitted to:
- One count of child enticement
- Two counts of sexual misconduct by school staff
Under a plea agreement, several additional charges were dismissed, including:
- First-degree sexual assault of a child
- Using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime
- Exposing a child to harmful descriptions
- Additional counts of sexual misconduct by school staff and child enticement
Court records indicate Bergmann was visibly emotional, wiping away tears during the hearing.
Discovery of Abuse
The abuse came to light when the boy’s mother overheard her son speaking to Bergmann on the phone. Upon reviewing the child’s phone, his parents found explicit texts describing encounters inside the classroom during lunch or after school.
Authorities say Bergmann told the boy she enjoyed him touching her and “making out.” The boy’s father confronted Bergmann at the school with printouts of the conversations.
A subsequent search of Bergmann’s classroom revealed a folder with the victim’s name, containing handwritten love notes detailing their interactions.
Personal Fallout
Bergmann was previously engaged, with a wedding planned for July 2024, but the nuptials were canceled following the allegations, shocking her fiancé, Sam Hickman.
Sentencing
According to the reports, Bergmann is scheduled to be sentenced on December 22, 2025.
