Phoenix, Arizona — After beginning December with daytime highs in the 70s, Arizona is now experiencing a sharp shift toward winter-like conditions as a storm system moves near the Four Corners. This change has pushed daytime highs into the 60s, signaling the start of several cooler mornings across the state.
Snow Arrives in Northern Arizona
Light snowfall has been reported throughout Northern Arizona, offering residents a taste of early winter. Around noon, Williams saw large snowflakes, while both the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff reported a light dusting of snow.
Although snow is expected to taper off overnight, officials warn that High-Country travel may still be slippery on certain roadways, especially during the early morning hours.
Freeze Warning Issued for Several Arizona Communities
This passing storm is leaving behind a much colder air mass, with freezing temperatures expected just beyond the Valley. A Freeze Warning is now in effect from midnight through 9 a.m. Thursday for:
- Globe
- Miami
- Punkin Center
- San Carlos
- Other surrounding communities
Residents in these areas are advised to protect plants, pets, pipes, and outdoor equipment from the impending freeze, according to the reports.
Chilly Valley Lows and Gradual Warm-Up Ahead
Within the Phoenix Valley, temperatures will dip into the mid-40s, with upper-30s expected along the outer edges.
Despite the chilly mornings, daytime highs will remain in the 60s under mostly sunny skies for both Thursday and Friday, as the storm system exits and high pressure begins to build over the region.
Warmer, Drier Weather Returns by the Weekend
Arizona won’t stay chilly for long. Forecasters expect temperatures to rebound quickly:
- Highs in the 70s return by Sunday
- Mid-70s will persist through most of next week
- A prolonged warm, dry stretch is likely across the Valley, kicking off a mild early December pattern
The temporary winter blast is giving Arizonans a reminder of seasonal weather, but conditions will soon shift back to the warm, dry climate typical of the region.
