Wilmington, NC – A months-long narcotics investigation led by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (NHCSO) has culminated in a significant drug bust and the arrest of a Wilmington man now facing a staggering $1.5 million bond.
Multi-Month Investigation Uncovers Large Drug Operation
On August 19, NHCSO’s Vice & Narcotics Division executed a search warrant at the residence of Guy Braxton Williams on McClammy Street in Wilmington. The operation followed several months of surveillance and investigative work.
During the search, detectives discovered:
- Over 2,100 pressed fentanyl pills
- 394 MDMA (Ecstasy) pills
- 167 grams (approx. 6 ounces) of cocaine
- Quantities of marijuana
- Four handguns and two rifles
- One stolen dirt bike
This sizeable haul reflects a potentially dangerous distribution network that, authorities say, was putting the community at risk.
Serious Criminal Charges Filed
Following the seizure, Guy Braxton Williams was arrested and booked into the New Hanover County Detention Facility. As per WECT, he faces multiple serious charges, including:
- Two counts of Trafficking Opium/Heroin
- Two counts of Trafficking MDMA
- Two counts of Trafficking Cocaine
- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
- Additional narcotics-related offenses
With the bond set at $1.5 million, Williams remains in custody as he awaits further court proceedings.
Sheriff Praises Investigators’ Work

Sheriff Ed McMahon issued a statement following the arrest, commending his deputies and investigators for their dedication and hard work:
“The dedication of our investigators and deputies makes New Hanover County safer for all residents.”
Sheriff McMahon emphasized that this bust demonstrates the sheriff’s office’s commitment to removing dangerous drugs and illegal firearms from local neighborhoods.
Fentanyl and MDMA Among Seized Drugs
One of the most alarming discoveries during the operation was the large quantity of pressed fentanyl pills—a synthetic opioid known for its high potency and involvement in a growing number of fatal overdoses nationwide.
Additionally, MDMA, often associated with party and club drug culture, and cocaine, a high-risk stimulant, were found in significant quantities.
This mixture of narcotics underscores the wide range of drugs being trafficked and the potential harm posed to community members, especially youth and vulnerable populations.
A Broader Effort Against Drug Trafficking
The bust comes amid rising concerns across North Carolina over the spread of fentanyl-related overdoses, prompting renewed efforts from law enforcement agencies to shut down local drug rings.
NHCSO’s recent seizure adds to growing evidence that illegal drug distribution in the region is frequently tied to illegal firearms and repeat offenders, such as Williams, who is already a convicted felon.
What’s Next in the Case?
Williams is expected to appear in court soon to face the litany of charges against him. Investigators have not ruled out further arrests as part of the ongoing investigation into broader narcotics activity in the region.
