Will There Be Any Holiday Celebrations in Bethel This Year Due to COVID-19? First Selectman Knickerbocker Comments

Nativity display and Christmas tree lights, December 2018, in P.T. Barnum Square, Bethel, CT.

Everyone seems to be wondering if there will be any holiday activities or celebrations this year, starting with Thanksgiving dinner for the seniors at the CJH Municipal center and going through to the “WinterFest” seasonal celebrations in town, due to the COVID-19 restrictions imposed on Connecticut residents from the state and town of Bethel, and nationally too.

We asked First Selectman Knickerbocker to clarify.

Knickerbocker stated, “Most of those things are done by the Chamber, but I am aware they are gathering volunteers to wrap lights on the street lamps downtown. No, sorry, there will not be a Thanksgiving dinner at the municipal center. Small space, no way to keep people safe.

Regarding Christmas and other holiday celebrations, Knickerbocker stated, “We received applications to put the Nativity and the Menorah on the green this year, which were approved. No other displays were requested. All other questions you’ll have to contact the Chamber. I have no details at this time.”

We have messaged the Bethel Chamber of Commerce but as of this report, we have not yet heard back from them. So we do not yet have information regarding the “Winterfest” or horse and wagon ride, or Nativoty and Menorah lighting date or details, or any related town celebrations.

We will update as we receive more info.
