REQUEST A CHANGE OF DATE OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN BOS “SPECIAL MEETING” PLANNED FOR THIS TUESDAY, NOV. 12th, SUPPOSEDLY TO DISCUSS RELIGIOUS DISPLAYS IN BETHEL!
The tactics used by town officials to prevent residents from attending all important meetings has to stop!!!
Just this week, on November 7th, First Selectman Knickerbocker told BETHEL ADVOCATE that the Board of Selectmen “SPECIAL MEETING” date was NOT set yet, a meeting where the Nativity and other displays, and the possible lottery selection, will be discussed, but now we have unofficial info. that Selectman Paul Szatkowski said the meeting date is set for THIS TUESDAY November 12th when MANY OTHER MEETINGS ARE TAKING PLACE AT THE SAME TIME such as the Planning & Zoning and Board of Finance, Public Site & Building Committee, and others. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!
There is NO reason why the BOS “SPECIAL MEETING” needs to take place this Tuesday. Why not hold it on any other day that there are not numerous other important meetings scheduled at the same time! This nonsense has got to stop! This is a tactic to prevent residents from attending all important meetings, especially this one! This is the purposeful scheduling of meetings when many others need to attend other important meetings (either board/commission/committee members or residents)!
BETHEL ADVOCATE texted Knickerbocker today and he is not responding to our question to confirm that the meeting is Tuesday.
Now Monday is a holiday and municipal office is closed, so WILL they post the notice within 24 hours notice? They wait until the last minute so fewer people will know about meetings! Aren’t you tired of this treatment? Are you tired of the game-playing by officials, concerning what gets displayed on our town square? Or concerning treasured values, beliefs and celebrations that seem to not be given any value at all? VOICE YOUR OPINION NOW:
Drop off letters or write emails or call First Selectman Knickerbocker or the Board of Selectmen to change this meeting date NOW! NO main/important meetings should ever be held on the same day, same time as other important meetings! DEMAND THAT THIS MEETING DATE CHANGES!!!!
Call First Selectman Knickerbocker at (203) 794-8501 or email immediately to firstselectman@bethel-ct.gov and drop off letters to First Selectman Knickerbocker’s office at 1 School Street, Bethel CT. (Email is probably better since office is closed Monday! Isn’t that convenient?)
What we know so far is that there are 5 display applications but we do not know who submitted them or what the display designs or sizes are yet, or of a lottery will be held because they received more than three applications.
This is an important issue whose SPECIAL MEETING needs to be accessible to all, at a time and place more available than this Tuesday when many other meetings are taking place that are also important to attend. Residents should not be FORCED TO CHOOSE ONE MEETING to attend and miss other important information or a chance to speak at those meetings!
DEMAND CHANGES!
OR you can write a letter or email voicing your opinion regarding the religious display policies and decisions and indicate that you want it read aloud at the Tuesday meeting if the date does not change.
