New Roads, LA – A Pointe Coupee Parish vape shop is at the center of a major drug investigation after a raid uncovered fentanyl-laced pills, a handgun, and illicit vape products, raising serious concerns about youth drug exposure and community safety.
Dangerous Substances Disguised as Legitimate Products
Deputies with the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office raided K-C Vapes in New Roads and found a disturbing collection of contraband, including pills containing fentanyl designed to look like Percocet. Sheriff René Thibodeaux warned that such tactics are meant to trick users, particularly young people.
“Today, fentanyl is a game changer. You might not get another chance,” Thibodeaux said.
In addition to fentanyl, deputies seized marijuana, unregulated vape items, and a handgun. The sheriff’s office says the products are often packaged in colorful designs and fruity flavors intended to attract juveniles.
“It’s all to make it attractive to a child — and it’s working,” an official commented.
Suspect Arrested and Charges Filed
The man accused of selling the products, 22-year-old Cullen Carmesin, was arrested in West Feliciana Parish. He faces multiple felony charges, including:
- Possession of Schedule I drugs
- Possession of a machine gun
Sheriff Thibodeaux reiterated the department’s strict stance on drugs:
“The Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office has a zero tolerance for drugs and drug dealers.”
Officials are now moving to revoke the business license for K-C Vapes and shut down the premises to prevent further illegal activity as reported by WBRZ.
Dangers of Drug Abuse: A Growing Crisis
The raid underscores the growing threat of fentanyl and drug-laced vaping in both urban and rural communities. Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine, and even a trace amount can be lethal. When disguised as familiar drugs or hidden in vape cartridges, it becomes even more dangerous — particularly to teens and first-time users.
Community members are urged to:
- Talk to teens about the risks of vaping and drug use
- Report suspicious businesses or activities to law enforcement
- Use caution with any unregulated substances
Sheriff Thibodeaux added:
“You can’t just go out there and experiment with any type of drug in today’s world.”
Methods to Reduce Drug Trafficking in Small Communities
Local leaders emphasize a multi-pronged approach to reduce drug trafficking:
- Community education campaigns targeting parents and youth
- Regular business inspections for compliance
- Partnerships with schools to identify early signs of abuse
- Anonymous tip lines to encourage community reporting
- Increased funding for rural law enforcement
These measures are seen as critical to curbing the spread of dangerous drugs and protecting vulnerable residents.
