Vancouver, WA — A 40-year-old woman, Danielle Crosby, was arrested on Tuesday night, Dec. 2, after allegedly stealing a car that contained a firearm, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say the incident began when deputies were investigating a break-in and stolen vehicle in northeast Vancouver around 8 p.m.
Stolen Vehicle Located in Battle Ground
Shortly after the initial report, officers learned that the stolen vehicle had been parked at a Starbucks near W. Main Street and SR-503 in Battle Ground. Battle Ground Police responded and believed the suspect was still inside the car.
Given that the vehicle contained a firearm and the suspect posed a high risk of fleeing, additional units were requested to assist in the response.
High-Speed Pursuit Ensues
When deputies and officers attempted to move in, Crosby accelerated the vehicle, weaving around patrol cars and fleeing the parking lot. A high-speed pursuit began, during which stop sticks were deployed to puncture the tires. Despite the damage, Crosby continued driving until officers used a Grappler device to immobilize the vehicle near Northeast 72nd Avenue and SR-502 in Dollars Corner.
During the pursuit, Crosby reportedly collided with two patrol vehicles, damaging one. Deputies had to quickly jump out of the way to avoid being struck, but were ultimately able to pin the vehicle and take her into custody.
Criminal Charges and Background
Crosby, who is a convicted felon, faces multiple felony charges. As a felon, she is legally prohibited from possessing firearms, making the presence of the gun in the stolen vehicle an aggravating factor in her arrest. She has been booked into the Clark County Jail.
Authorities emphasized that swift coordination between Vancouver Police, Battle Ground Police, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office was critical in safely apprehending Crosby and minimizing further risk to the public.
Public Safety and Law Enforcement Remarks
The agencies involved noted that the incident highlights the dangers posed when stolen vehicles contain firearms, and praised the deputies’ and officers’ training and quick decision-making during a dangerous, high-speed pursuit.
Officials reminded residents to report suspicious activity promptly and remain vigilant, particularly in cases involving stolen vehicles and weapons.
