Upcoming Winter Forecast Might Reduce Holiday/Vacation Days for Bethel Public Schools — BPS Superintendent Dr. Carver

Message from Dr. Christine Carver, October 7, 2018:

Inclement Weather Reminder…

As you are aware, we made significant adjustments to the 2018-2019 school calendar for the renovations of Johnson and Rockwell. The goal of the adjustments was to create a summer of close to 12 weeks to maximize construction for the projects.

We had 12 missed days last year due to inclement weather. Recently, I have had two separate winter previews, which claim that it is going to be another tough winter.

Currently the Board, as stated on the calendar, gives me latitude to reduce the vacations (both February and April) to compensate for weather related closures. I hate to do so at the last minute, because many staff and families have nonrefundable vacations. So to be proactive, going into the 2018-2019 school year, I will let you know the following:

If we have 3 weather related closures by February 15th, we will have school on February 19th.

If we have 4 weather related closures by February 15th, we will have school on February 18th and 19th.

I will try and avoid taking time from April vacation.

Lastly, given the weather this past year, we will be adjusting our school time schedule to include a three (3) hour delay. Therefore, if we have a inclement weather, I have the option to do a two (2) hour or three (3) hour delay.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Christine Carver, Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools
Bethel Public Schools
