Unofficial: Town and Education Budget 2016 passed!

Unofficial Results, April 12 Bethel 2016 Budget Referendum Vote: All Passed

Tonight the unofficial vote count for Bethel Town and Education Budgets showed they all passed.  Town Budget passed by 1504 to 719 and Education Budget passed by 1466 to 749.  See totals and photos below.

First Selectman Matthew Knickerbocker said, “I’m delighted with the strong show of support for our community.”  He said it helps the town move forward with many projects such as road maintenance, etc.  “I think the town is doing very well,” he said.

Selectman Richard Straiton said, “It’s great to see it pass the first one. We were very conservative.  The first budget is always the best budget.”

Newly elected Bethel Republican Town Committee (BRTC) Chairman Bill Hillman said, “This bears testament to the Republican leadership who hold the majority on the Board of Education and the Board of Finance.  They navigated difficult waters and made balanced decisions to move Bethel forward without a tax increase.”

Hillman commented that there was only about a 20% turnout of voters today.
