Former Bethel Republican Town Committee (BRTC) Chairman Will Duff received the unanimous endorsement of the 2nd General Assembly District held in Bethel Municipal Center on Monday evening, May 16th. Delegates from Bethel, Redding, Danbury, and Newtown selected Duff as their nominee to succeed State Rep. Dan Carter (R-2nd) who is vacating the seat to challenge U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal. Duff’s candidacy will be cross-endorsed by the Independent Party of Connecticut.
Duff, a former Selectman and school board member stated, “The Malloy administration has failed the people of Connecticut, time and again. This Governor tried to tell us that the largest tax increase in state history would fix our economy – he was wrong. He told us his policy on business would lead to jobs coming to Connecticut – he was wrong. As Connecticut’s economy has declined and people have left in droves, Dan Malloy has been weaker, more uncertain, and more divisive than any Governor in the entire United States. Fortunately people like Dan Carter have been extraordinary in standing up to reckless policies and irresponsible spending. I look forward to being part of a new Republican majority in the General Assembly who will hold this administration’s feet in the fire and put an end to rubber-stamping.”
According to Duff, “In the coming months, I will show the taxpayers of Bethel, Redding, Danbury, and Newtown that they can count on me to have their values. Unlike either of my Democratic opponents, I’m not running to be somebody who will go to Hartford as another green light for continued failed policies. I will bring compassion, diligence, and dedication to finding new solutions today to make Connecticut better for tomorrow’s challenges.”
The 2nd General Assembly District includes two thirds of Bethel, nearly two fifths of Redding, and small portions of Danbury and Newtown. It has been represented by Dan Carter since 2011.
