Cerritos, CA – Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of two men early Sunday morning at the City of Cerritos Sports Complex. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on the 19700 block of Bloomfield Avenue.
Gunfire Erupts in Parking Lot
LASD reported that multiple vehicles were parked in the south parking stalls of the sports complex when a barrage of 20 to 25 gunshots rang out. Witnesses said all vehicles fled the scene immediately after the gunfire.
Investigators later discovered what appeared to be numerous shell casings in the southwest parking lot, suggesting that multiple firearms may have been used in the attack.
Victims Pronounced Dead at Hospital
The two victims, described only as male adults, were transported to a hospital, reportedly by friends. Both were pronounced dead upon arrival. Unconfirmed reports indicated that emotional scenes unfolded at the hospital as family and friends gathered, with law enforcement also present.
No Suspects in Custody
As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made. Authorities confirmed that there is no suspect information available and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
“The reason for the vehicles gathering at the location, and the reason behind the shooting remains unknown at this time,” LASD stated in a public update as per KTLA.
