Apopka, Florida – A tragic crash in Orange County, Florida, left two people dead and two others injured on Sunday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The collision happened shortly after 6 p.m. on Rock Springs Road, not far from Alexandria Place Drive near Apopka.
Authorities say the violent two-vehicle crash involved a 2023 Ford Mustang and a 2021 Ford E350, resulting in catastrophic damage and a multi-agency emergency response.
Mustang Reportedly Speeding Before Collision
In their preliminary crash report, investigators stated that an 18-year-old Apopka man was driving the Ford Mustang southbound on Rock Springs Road, allegedly traveling above the posted speed limit.
At the same time, a 2021 Ford E350, operated by a 63-year-old Orlando man, attempted to make a left turn onto Alexandria Place Drive. According to FHP, the E350 driver turned directly into the path of the Mustang, leaving the young driver with no time to avoid impact.
The Mustang then slammed into the right side of the E350, causing severe injuries and trapping some of the vehicle’s elderly passengers.
Teen Driver and Young Passenger Hospitalized
The 18-year-old Mustang driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. His passenger, a 17-year-old boy, suffered critical injuries and also required emergency medical transport.
Officials have not yet released updates on their conditions, and no identities have been publicly disclosed.
81-Year-Old and 94-Year-Old Passengers Killed
Tragically, two passengers riding in the Ford E350 were killed due to the force of the collision. FHP identified them as an 81-year-old Apopka man and a 94-year-old Apopka woman. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the report.
The driver of the E350 — a 63-year-old Orlando man — was uninjured and remained at the scene to speak with investigators. Authorities have not indicated any signs of impairment.
Roadway Conditions and Speed Under Review
The fatal crash occurred in a well-traveled area near residential neighborhoods and commercial developments. Investigators are now reviewing several factors, including:
- Excessive speed by the Mustang driver
- Visibility and timing of the E350’s turn
- Road lighting and traffic flow at the time of the collision
- Potential contributing elements such as distraction or misjudgment
FHP is conducting a full reconstruction of the crash to determine whether charges will be filed against either driver.
Community Mourning Multiple Generations Lost
The deaths of the 81-year-old and 94-year-old Apopka residents have sent shockwaves through the community, especially among local seniors and longtime residents who knew the victims. Their identities have not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
Neighbors say the stretch of Rock Springs Road has seen increasing traffic and frequent speeding concerns — issues local residents have been urging officials to address.

The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Additional information, including potential charges or updates on the teens’ medical conditions, will be released in the coming days.
