Lake County, IL – A high-speed chase in Chicago’s northern suburbs on Saturday evening led to the arrest of two 17-year-old teenagers, one of whom was found in possession of a pistol with an extended magazine, authorities reported.
Chase Begins on Sheridan Road
The incident started around 7:40 p.m. when deputies observed a Toyota Camry traveling nearly 80 mph in a 40 mph zone northbound on Sheridan Road at Beach Road in Beach Park. The car was reportedly driving with its lights off, making it difficult for officers to follow safely.
As police attempted a traffic stop, the Camry fled at high speeds, prompting a pursuit.
Arrests and Firearm Discovery
The driver, a 17-year-old, was located and taken into custody in a parking lot on the 3300 block of Sheridan Road in Zion.
The passenger initially fled on foot but was later arrested, and officers found a pistol with an extended magazine in his waistband.

- Aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm
- Resisting arrest
- Unlawful possession of cannabis
- Underage possession of alcohol
- Detained at the Hulse Juvenile Detention Facility for a hearing
Driver (17-year-old):
- Aggravated fleeing to elude
- Aggravated speeding
- Reckless driving
- Additional traffic offenses
- Released to parental custody
Officials noted, as per Fox Chicago, that a Dodge Dakota may have been traveling with the Camry and also fled; investigators are working to identify the vehicle.
