Tulsa, OK – Several people were hospitalized after a three-car crash caused by drag racing down Memorial Drive on Saturday night, according to the Tulsa Police Department (TPD).
Crash Details
The incident occurred around 10:25 p.m. at the intersection of Memorial Drive and East 15th Street.
Officers said multiple witnesses reported seeing two cars drag racing along Memorial Drive before the crash.
At the intersection, one of the drag racing vehicles collided with an SUV, which was then pushed into another car nearby, creating a multi-car collision.
Victims and Injuries
- There were five people inside the SUV, all of whom were transported to the hospital.
- TPD reported that all occupants are expected to recover fully, though they were treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
Police Statement
TPD Lt. Torin Sanders highlighted the dangers of drag racing, especially on busy roads like Memorial Drive. He said:
“It’s extremely dangerous, especially on these weekends, which is when it always happens. Memorial is an extremely busy major thoroughfare and it remains that way throughout the night. When you’re doing 20 plus miles an hour over the speed limit and other people are leaving driveways or leaving neighborhoods [they] are not expecting you to be going that fast. You run the chance of t-boning them or if you end up running red lights, you’re really putting yourself at risk of killing an entire family, which thankfully didn’t happen tonight.”
Authorities confirmed to Fox23 that the citations were issued to the individuals involved in the drag racing.
