Fredericksburg, TX – A routine traffic stop in Gillespie County uncovered a large stash of illegal drugs, a handgun, and drug paraphernalia, leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect on multiple felony charges.
The Traffic Stop
According to Gillespie County Sheriff Chris Ayala, deputies stopped Logan Duecker, 18, for speeding along South Highway 87 at Whispering Oaks Drive. Deputies reported detecting a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Drugs and Weapons Seized
A search of the vehicle revealed:
- 38 grams of cocaine
- 24 grams of THC
- A quarter-pound of marijuana
- A handgun
- A digital scale
Deputies also obtained consent to search Duecker’s bedroom, where they discovered an additional 22 grams of methamphetamine.
Sheriff’s Statement
Sheriff Ayala expressed concern about both the drugs and the suspect’s age.
“The age is heartbreaking because he’s only 18,” Ayala said. “Unfortunately, the laws are in place, and we’re going to act on them professionally and wisely.”
He emphasized the broader impact of narcotics on the community, saying:
“Narcotics create dysfunction … if we can break that root where it comes from, then I think we can stop the systemic problem and make positive strides.”
Charges and Bond
Duecker was booked into the Gillespie County Jail and is being held on a $130,000 bond, according to jail records reviewed by KENS5News.
Sheriff Ayala also issued a warning:
“If they’re wanting to come to Gillespie County, I’m hoping they think twice. Or they just go elsewhere, personally.”
