CAÑON CITY, Colorado — A routine traffic stop turned into a major drug bust after officers allegedly spotted narcotics in plain sight, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs.
The Stop and Seizure
- On Thursday, Sept. 4, the Cañon City Police Department (CCPD), assisting Colorado Department of Corrections Parole Officers, conducted a traffic stop.
- During the stop, officers reportedly saw drugs in plain view.
- 38-year-old Vanessa Nicole Budd and 40-year-old George Bumgarner were arrested.
A search of the vehicle uncovered:
- 814.787 grams (approx. 1.8 pounds) of methamphetamine
- 95.091 grams of fentanyl (approx. 800 pills)
- 12.772 grams of liquid methamphetamine/fentanyl mixture
- A handgun
- Large amounts of U.S. currency
- A small scale and plastic bags
The total street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at $17,000.
Charges Filed and Police Statement
Budd and Bumgarner are both facing multiple drug-related charges, according to the reports by Fox21News.
