Town of Bethel Sets New Public Hearing Date for Tax Stabilization Ordinance Due to Mistake in Posting the Legal Notice

Report by Paula Antolini, August 30, 2022, 1:05P EDT

According to the Bethel Board of Selectmen (BOS) meeting minutes for July 21, 2022, the Town of Bethel had originally set the date for a Public Hearing on the Tax Stabilization Plan, for August 9, 2022:

“Consideration of Public Hearing date, time and location for Tax Stabilization Ordinance:
First Selectman Knickerbocker made a motion, which was seconded by Selectman Straiton to
approve August 9, 2022, 6:30 p.m., Meeting Room A for the Tax Stabilization Public Hearing.
Vote, all in favor, motion approved unanimously.”

This public hearing never took place apparently due to the News Times never printing the legal notice, according to the BOS regular meeting minutes of August 16, 2022, so it had to be rescheduled:

Set date for Public Hearing re: proposed TSF ordinance: The previous Public Hearing for this proposed ordinance was voided because the News Times failed to print the notice that was approved by the First Selectman’ s office. First Selectman Knickerbocker made a motion, which was seconded by Selectman
Straiton, to establish a Public Hearing on August 30, 2022 at 6: 30pm in Meeting Room A of the Municipal Center on the Tax Fund Stabilization proposed ordinance. Vote, all in favor, motion carries.

The new public hearing date is now set for tonight, August 30, 2022 at 6: 30pm in Meeting Room A
of the Municipal Center.
