Airplane cabins can test anyone’s patience, but one passenger took “getting comfortable” to a whole new level. A Reddit post in the r/Delta forum, titled “Crimes against humanity,” showed a man reclining with his bare feet propped up on the seat in front of him — and the internet wasted no time weighing in.
Reactions from Fellow Travelers
The photo triggered a lively discussion among Redditors, many of whom shared similar horror stories from the skies.
- “This strikes me as the same type of person who would clip their nails in public,” one user quipped.
- Another joked, “This is not your mom’s basement, sir.”
- “Living room syndrome strikes again,” another added.
One traveler even admitted to always carrying disinfectant wipes on board, writing: “This is why I travel with Clorox wipes on planes.”
When asked if anything was said to the passenger, the original poster confirmed: “Sure did, he at least put his socks back on.”
Expert Advice on Airplane Etiquette
Jacqueline Whitmore, a Florida-based etiquette expert and former flight attendant, explained why going barefoot on a plane isn’t just impolite — it’s unsafe.
“From an etiquette standpoint, it is rude to walk about barefoot in a public place, as many germs can be transmitted from your feet,” she told Fox News Digital.
She also warned that airplane floors are far from clean, especially in lavatories: “The water on the floor is most likely not water at all.”
A Better Way to Stay Comfortable
Whitmore recommends passengers keep their feet covered at all times. Clean socks, slippers, or comfortable shoes are the best options for both personal hygiene and consideration for others.
“For fellow passengers, seeing someone walk around barefoot can be considered unpleasant or unhygienic, which could negatively impact their flying experience,” she added.
The Bigger Picture
From clipping nails to cooking pasta mid-air, airplane etiquette has become a recurring debate on social media. As cramped cabins push travelers to seek comfort, the question remains — where should passengers draw the line?
