Hingham, MA – On Labor Day, a bystander in Hingham, Massachusetts, acted quickly to rescue a 22-month-old toddler trapped in a dangerously hot car at the Derby Street Shops.

The incident occurred around 2:31 p.m. on Labor Day when a couple parked their car next to the vehicle where the toddler was trapped. Concerned by the child’s distress, the couple immediately called 911 and took action by entering the car through the open sunroof to unlock it and safely remove the child.
Once law enforcement arrived, officers placed the child in their air-conditioned cruiser while awaiting paramedics. The toddler was then transported to South Shore Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have not disclosed details about the child’s current condition.

The mother, a 44-year-old woman from Brockton, returned to the scene claiming she had been checking on the child while shopping in the plaza. However, police reports indicate that the last time she checked on the child was 20 minutes prior to the rescue.
Despite the outdoor temperature being a moderate 73 degrees Fahrenheit, the inside of the car had become significantly hotter, posing a severe risk to the toddler’s health.
As per NBC Boston, the mother is facing charges of reckless endangerment related to the child’s safety.
