Racine, WI — Three teenagers, all 16 years old and under, were hospitalized after a shooting during an altercation at a southeastern Wisconsin community center Thursday evening. Police say the violent incident disrupted a gathering at the Tyler Domer Community Center, leaving the community shaken.
According to the Racine Police Department, officers were called to the scene around 6:10 p.m. on October 16 following reports of multiple injuries.
Shooting Leaves Three Teens Injured
Authorities confirmed that two 16-year-olds and one 14-year-old were struck by gunfire during an altercation inside or near the community center on 12th Street.
One of the victims, a 14-year-old boy, was shot in the thigh and later treated and released from the hospital. The two 16-year-olds were taken to Children’s Hospital for further treatment, with one of them airlifted from the scene due to multiple gunshot wounds.
“As of 9:30 p.m. Thursday, no further updates were available on their conditions,” Racine police said in a press statement.
Investigation Underway
Investigators spent several hours processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing security footage. Police have not announced any arrests or identified potential suspects.
Authorities told WFRV Local 5 that the shooting took place during an altercation at the facility, though the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear.
“The investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be shared as they become available,” police said.
Community Center Response
The Tyler Domer Community Center has long served as a hub for youth programs and after-school activities in Racine. Local leaders expressed concern that a space meant for education and recreation became the site of gun violence.
