Davie, FL – Authorities in Florida have arrested three teenagers in connection with a violent attack that left a woman severely beaten, pistol-whipped, and shot at in Davie, a suburb in the Fort Lauderdale metro area.
According to the Town of Davie Police Department, the suspects – Nawrkin Nawlyn Rivas De Los Santos, 19, Lyrick Garcia, 19, and Valerie Lisette Gonzalez, 19 – are all facing attempted murder charges.
Arrests and Charges
Police announced the arrests of Rivas De Los Santos and Garcia earlier this week. Both face charges of attempted murder in the first degree with a firearm.
On Tuesday, officers confirmed the arrest of Gonzalez, who is charged with:
- First-degree attempted murder
- Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
- Illegal discharge of a firearm
All three suspects are currently being held in the Broward Main Jail without bond, according to jail records.
How the Attack Unfolded
The attack occurred on June 22 at the victim’s residence on Southwest 39th Court in Davie. Investigators say the victim had been lured outside by a man she had been messaging on Instagram, who told her he was nearby and suggested they get food.
When the victim walked toward the man’s light-colored four-door sedan, she was suddenly ambushed. A second man wearing a hoodie and ski mask jumped out of the car and punched her in the face, continuing to beat her until she suffered injuries to her lip, face, and neck.
Shortly after, a masked woman emerged from the car, whom the victim recognized by voice as Gonzalez. According to the warrant, Gonzalez referenced her “dead boyfriend” before striking the victim in the head with a gun. Both male defendants later confirmed that Gonzalez pistol-whipped the victim.
As the victim collapsed, Gonzalez and one of the men allegedly stomped on her. Police say Gonzalez also appeared to be recording the attack with a cellphone, later sending the victim a video clip of the beating.
Shot Fired as Victim Escaped
The victim managed to break free and run. As she fled, Gonzalez allegedly fired a single shot in her direction. One of the suspects later told police the shot may have been aimed at the ground, but the victim believed Gonzalez was trying to kill her.
Social Media Messages Used as Evidence
Investigators revealed that the victim knew both Gonzalez and at least one other assailant from juvenile detention and middle school. She also identified Gonzalez’s Instagram account as the source of threatening messages.
Court documents as reviewed by Law&Crime, show Gonzalez admitted in messages that she intended to kill the victim and even threatened to do so again in the future. In one message, Gonzalez allegedly wrote:
- “If I killed her which I was gonna kill her b[u]t I woulda been wrong I just taught her a lesson.”
Other messages were reportedly directed at the victim’s mother, where Gonzalez acknowledged being “messed up mentally” and referenced her “dead people.”
