Brooklyn, NY — Police are searching for multiple suspects after a shooting at a Brooklyn lounge left three dead and nine others injured early Sunday morning. Authorities say the incident is linked to a gang-related dispute.
Details of the Shooting
The shooting occurred just before 3:30 a.m. at Taste of the City, a lounge located on Franklin Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that 12 victims were identified, ranging in age from 19 to 61. Initially, only 11 victims were identified.
Responding officers found a 19-year-old male dead on the scene, while a 27-year-old man and a 35-year-old man later died of their injuries in hospital. The remaining nine victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Some of the victims were involved in the shooting, while others were bystanders,” Commissioner Tisch said, noting that the information remains preliminary (source).
Investigation and Suspects
Authorities are looking for up to four shooters involved in the incident. Investigators recovered 42 shell casings from 9 mm and .45 caliber weapons at the scene. Police are also determining whether a firearm found nearby is connected to the shooting.
Mayor Eric Adams called on anyone with information to come forward and said city officials are working with community partners to prevent retaliatory shootings.
“We’re always concerned after a shooting, retaliatory shootings will follow if we don’t get on the ground with our crisis management team and other partners,” Mayor Adams said.
Context of Gang Violence in NYC
Commissioner Tisch noted that more than half of the city’s shootings are driven by gang violence, though she described this incident as an anomaly amid declining shooting numbers in New York City.
- The city is experiencing the lowest number of shooting incidents and victims seven months into the year on record.
- Recent shootings include one earlier this month in Times Square, which left three injured, and a July shooting in a Manhattan skyscraper, which killed four.
Historical Context at the Location
The same Brooklyn address saw a shooting in November 2024, when a 28-year-old victim was shot in the back and arm but survived in stable condition.
Authorities continue to investigate, and police urge anyone with information about the incident or related activity to contact law enforcement.
