Wilson County, Kansas — A devastating collision in Wilson County on November 10, 2025, has left a community in mourning after two young adults and a toddler lost their lives in a tragic semi-truck and passenger car crash on U.S. Highway 400.
Deadly Collision on U.S. Highway 400
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) crash report, the incident occurred around milepost 372.9 on U400, near the intersection with Granby Avenue. Investigators say a 2019 Hyundai Sonata, traveling westbound on Granby Avenue, collided with a northbound semi-truck on U400.
The initial findings indicate that the driver of the Sonata failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the semi to strike the car with significant force. The impact of the crash was so severe that the smaller vehicle sustained catastrophic damage, leaving no survivors inside.
Victims Identified
Authorities identified the victims as Adam Brooks (21), the driver of the Hyundai Sonata; Kylie Brooks (21), a passenger; and their two-year-old child, Kohen Brooks.
All three tragically succumbed to their injuries at the scene before emergency responders could provide aid.
Officials have confirmed that the next of kin has been notified, and grief counselors have been made available to family members and friends struggling to process the sudden loss.
Community in Mourning
The heartbreaking news has rippled through the Wilson County community, prompting an outpouring of condolences and support. Friends of the Brooks family have described them as “loving parents” and “kind-hearted people who brought joy wherever they went.”
Residents have also taken to social media to express their sorrow and share memories of the young family. Many have emphasized the importance of road safety and the need for greater awareness at intersections known for heavy truck traffic.
Truck Driver Uninjured
The driver of the semi-truck, whose identity has not been released, was not injured in the crash, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Investigators remained on the scene for several hours after the incident to document evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events. While the preliminary report attributes the crash to a failure to stop, officials have not ruled out additional contributing factors such as visibility issues or road conditions at the time of the collision.
The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to review witness statements and vehicle data to prepare a full report, which will be shared once the investigation concludes.
Road Safety Reminder
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can occur at busy intersections and rural highways. Law enforcement agencies urge drivers to always observe traffic signs, reduce speed when approaching intersections, and remain alert, especially on routes frequented by heavy commercial vehicles.
