Three Arrested after Dangerous Early-Morning Stolen Vehicle Pursuit in Columbia

Boone County, MO – A stolen vehicle chase early Monday morning in Columbia ended with three arrests, including two teenagers and one adult, according to authorities. The incident underscores concerns over vehicle theft and high-speed pursuits in residential areas.

Chase Begins Around 5 a.m.

At approximately 4:59 a.m., the Boone County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle reported stolen traveling north on Rangeline Street near I-70. Deputies immediately attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled the scene, initiating a seven-minute pursuit through Columbia.

During the chase, the suspect drove across multiple lawns, creating hazards for pedestrians and residents. The pursuit ended on Lincoln Drive, where the vehicle came to a stop, and all four occupants exited and fled on foot.

Arrests and Charges

According to the reports, law enforcement quickly apprehended three individuals from the group:

  • 19-year-old Kyshawn A. Harris – charged with Aggravated Fleeing a Stop. Harris is being held without bond at the Boone County Jail.
  • 17-year-old juvenile – taken into the custody of the Juvenile Office for Resisting Arrest and Second-Degree Tampering With a Motor Vehicle.
  • 16-year-old juvenile – also transferred to the Juvenile Office on charges of Resisting Arrest and Second-Degree Tampering With a Motor Vehicle.

The fourth occupant has not been publicly identified, and authorities continue their investigation into the case.

Risks of High-Speed Pursuits

Sheriff’s officials emphasized the dangers of fleeing from law enforcement, particularly in areas with residential streets, pedestrians, and early morning traffic.

“These pursuits can quickly become dangerous, not just for the suspects, but also for the public and law enforcement officers involved,” officials said.

Residents in the area expressed concerns about the frequent vehicle thefts and risky driving behavior, calling for stronger measures to prevent similar incidents.

Ongoing Investigation

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing the chase in detail and may pursue additional charges against all occupants depending on the investigation. Officials also remind drivers and the community to report suspicious activity promptly to help prevent crimes like vehicle theft.
