Today we have another wonderful written piece from Jeanne Claire Probst, in our continuing literary series. We are thrilled to have author/poet/blogger Jeanne Claire Probst join Bethel Advocate as a contributor, sharing her “Thought and Poem” written works with us. Her work covers many topics. THOUGHT AND POEM

Again, I went through my files of fictional short stories and I came across this one I had called “The Moonlight Stroll.” I often write in the first person as I find it easier for me to draw out emotions that one would feel as if the story was really happening…to me…to them.
Little do we realize as our lives become so engaged, that we forget the silent witnesses around us that can give more meaning to our presence and promises for our future if we would think about who is behind what we see and allow ourselves to imagine how we fit into the picture. We can learn so much more about ourselves when we look at something more powerful and bigger than we are. It can also be humbling to know that we can’t go at life by ourselves. We need others.

The Moonlight Stroll
The moonlight stroll I took tonight with my dog was just the right thing I needed at the end of a stressful day. The quietness surrounding the moon and the stars along the dark road around my home distracted me to some degree, and seemed to erase the woes of my day.
My dog, a gift from my husband about ten years ago, although aging, had more energy than I did tonight, and she took the lead in pulling me around as if the leash was around my neck and not on hers. I had actually chuckled a few times on the walk, as I realized that we had switch roles momentarily; I the dog and she the master.
Looking up at the sky on a cloudless dark night always left deep impressions on me. The wonders of the greatness we see, and the even more awesomeness we discover when we view with our minds the depths of what we are really looking at. For one, I see amazing power and might. To be able to create such beauty, all placed in their rightful positions and doing the job they were purposed to do.
I become speechless when I think of the intelligence behind creating the picture I am looking at tonight, and I think of how small I am in comparison. Yet, there are times I feel I can be very smart, and am able to figure out the deepest meaning of some things in life, but I am nothing when standing before the power and might behind this vision.
As I sat on my sofa, drinking my last cup of tea for the night, I meditated on the power and might to be found and expressed in each human being around the earth. We, each being different, just as the stars that I observed tonight, all have a radiating brightness about us that we allow to shine for others. Kind of what I felt while I was out for my moonlight stroll.
Without our even being aware, others are observing us and determining in their minds what makes us stand out among the multitudes, what makes us special. Whether it is for some kind of mighty thing we have accomplished, our intelligence, our courage, or the strengths we carry that make us who we are, these allow others to paint the beautiful picture of what they see when they really know what we are made of.
Most likely, if everyone on the earth looked up at the sky on a dark night, every one of us would see something different, feel something different and walk away with a different sense of awareness. Like the stars, there are no two alike but they work together to light the sky for us at night, without competition but as a unit. One might be bigger in size, but another may shine brighter. People are the same; one might have a skill another one doesn’t, yet the other one has something he can offer to others, and all can gain from working together and being united.
The dog licked my hands, and brought me back to the present moment, and I realized that I had been lost in the depths of my thoughts, and I had not been aware of the time that had passed. But in that short time, it made me think about my existence, present and in the future to come. The warmth I had been feeling suddenly gave way to the goose bumps that were appearing on my arms and a soft chill filled the air around me. It had been a good night, quiet, peaceful, and I was thankful for having taken a moment to think about, how what I saw in the sky made think about what I was made of and I felt as powerful as the moonlit sky.

We see the Moon and the Stars and it builds in us a trust,
A testimony in the sky for years to come,
Hanging there for us to see and proof of God’s unending love.
Now the Moon hangs every night
And gives off just enough light
That we may maneuver about our way
Its gravity helps us on earth to stay.
The stars – there are so many millions we can see
That helps us navigate when we travel the seas
They also allow us to think deeply and we want to know
What makes them so bright and why at night they glow?
The Moon and the Stars
All magnificent as they stand
In their places in the sky each day
These are proof of a Creator so grand that can guide us successfully in every way.

The Fifteen Houses, a Novel
The Fifteen Houses is the first book of this new and exciting series to be published. Staged in the beautiful and scenic palate of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, in the early 1950’s, the main character delves into her reoccurring and discomforting memories of her younger, formative years. Searching for answers to questions that have resurfaced in her mind over and over again during her time away from her family, she seeks to find rhyme and reasons to her insecurities, anger, phobias, fears, and life’s choices. Julianne Marguerite, one of eleven children, is determined to uncover the “mystery” that resulted in the downfall of her family. As you turn the pages in the book, each series of memories, will open a different door, to the different homes, (“Fifteen” to be exact).
