Biloxi, Mississippi – A 33-year-old Texas woman, Camille Benson, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly inserting razor blades into loaves of bread at two Walmart locations in Biloxi, authorities reported. The shocking incidents prompted a swift law enforcement response and raised concerns about customer safety.
Benson faces attempted mayhem charges after multiple customers discovered the dangerous objects in bread purchased from a Walmart Supercenter and a Walmart Neighborhood Market, according to the Biloxi Police Department.
First Reports of Tampered Bread
Police said the first incident occurred on December 5, when a customer reported finding a razor blade hidden inside a loaf of bread purchased from the Walmart Supercenter. A second incident followed on December 8, when another customer discovered a blade in a loaf bought from the Walmart Neighborhood Market.
Following a third complaint to the Walmart Supercenter on Sunday, employees inspected store merchandise and discovered several additional loaves had been tampered with, officials said.
Surveillance Footage Leads to Arrest
After the incidents, Biloxi police released surveillance images showing Benson inside the stores. She was quickly identified as a person of interest and arrested on Tuesday. Her bond was set at $100,000.
Authorities are urging anyone who purchased bread from the affected Walmart locations to inspect their loaves carefully and report any suspicious items to the police.
Walmart Responds to Safety Concerns
Walmart issued a statement emphasizing customer safety:
“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority. We have removed and thoroughly inspected all potentially affected products at impacted stores in Biloxi. We appreciate law enforcement for their swift action and will continue cooperating with them as they investigate.”
The company also advised customers who purchased tampered products to discard them immediately and visit their local Walmart for a full refund.
Community Reassured
The Biloxi Police Department stated that there is no evidence other stores have been targeted and assured the public that authorities are actively investigating the situation to prevent further incidents.
