Texas Man Faces Felony Charges After Firing at Teens During “Ding-Dong-Ditch” Prank

Frisco, TX — A Texas man who opened fire on teenagers attempting a “ding-dong-ditch” prank at his home in July now faces three felony counts of aggravated assault, authorities confirmed.

Incident Details

The Frisco Police Department reported that the incident occurred on the evening of July 28 on Scottsdale Way. At around 10:50 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence following a report from a man who admitted to firing shots at individuals he believed were attempting to kick down his door.

“What started out as a prank, ding dong ditching a house, turned into something that could have potentially had deadly consequences,” said Frisco Police Chief David Shilson to CBS News Texas. “The teens did not want to report it because certainly they were out doing these pranks, and I don’t think they realize the gravity of everything that had occurred.”

During their investigation, officers discovered that Damon Wolfe, 58, fired multiple rounds at a passing vehicle, believing the occupants were involved in the prank. The teenagers later admitted they had been performing a “ding-dong-ditch” prank in a random neighborhood.

Damage and Arrest

Police observed what appeared to be three bullet holes in the vehicle, corresponding to the three passengers. Wolfe was arrested on August 7 on three counts of aggravated assault, one for each individual in the vehicle. The charges carry a potential prison sentence of 2 to 20 years and a $10,000 fine.

“The bullets fired in this offense could have easily struck neighbors’ houses and had deadly consequences,” Chief Shilson said. “This incident was completely senseless and avoidable.”

Warnings to Parents and the Public

Authorities are cautioning parents and homeowners about the dangers associated with such pranks and the potential for severe legal consequences.

“The teens involved in this case are very fortunate they were not shot and killed or seriously injured. For homeowners, it is important to understand that there are legal and criminal consequences for running outside and shooting at a vehicle fleeing the scene,” Shilson added.

This incident serves as a stark reminder that pranks can quickly escalate, putting both minors and adults at serious risk.
