Earlsboro, OK — An 18-year-old girl endured a horrifying ordeal after being stabbed 14 times by an allegedly obsessed former coworker, but survived thanks to the quick and fearless intervention of her brother, according to authorities.
Terrifying Late-Night Attack on Family’s Doorstep
According to the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, the vicious assault happened around 1:10 a.m. on Saturday when 24-year-old Ronaldo Zavala allegedly approached the teen as she arrived at her rural home in Earlsboro. Investigators say Zavala ambushed the young woman on her porch, stabbing her repeatedly in the neck and wrist.
The teen’s brother, awakened by the commotion, ran outside and confronted the knife-wielding attacker. During the struggle, he was also injured, but his actions likely prevented a fatal outcome.
“He saved his sister’s life,” said Capt. Jared Strand of the sheriff’s office, praising the young man’s bravery.
Mother’s Panicked 911 Call: ‘He Just Started Stabbing Her’
Their mother awoke to screams and frantically called 911, describing a chilling scene. In the recording obtained by WHSV, she reported that an unknown man wearing a ski mask attacked her daughter while she was simply enjoying a late-night snack.
“He said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry,’ and then he started stabbing her,” the distraught mother told dispatchers.
By the time deputies arrived, Zavala had already fled.
Victim in Critical Condition; Brother Suffers Minor Injuries

The teen girl was rushed to the hospital and is now listed in critical but stable condition. Her brother suffered minor stab wounds but is recovering. Authorities emphasized that his quick actions undoubtedly prevented more severe harm.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
Deputies swiftly identified Ronaldo Zavala as the prime suspect. A search warrant executed at his residence reportedly uncovered evidence directly connecting him to the assault.
Zavala has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery, as well as assault and battery while masked or disguised. Investigators say additional charges are likely as the case continues to unfold.
History of Obsession and Stalking Behavior
Authorities revealed that the victim and Zavala once worked together at a local movie theater, where his disturbing behavior allegedly began. According to Capt. Strand, Zavala developed an “obsession” with the teen, despite her lack of interest.
“He went as far as sending unsolicited DoorDash orders, unwanted gifts, and other attempts to get her attention,” Strand said. The victim even filed a complaint, which led to Zavala being terminated from his job.
Police Stress Importance of Reporting Early Signs of Stalking
Law enforcement is using this case to remind the public about the dangers of ignoring early signs of stalking.
“Even if it seems minor, report it,” Strand urged. “Let us document it before it escalates.”
The investigation into the brutal attack remains ongoing.
