Villa Park, IL – An 18-year-old man, identified as Aizik Davila, has been charged after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase and assaulting an officer in Villa Park early Sunday morning, according to officials.
The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office announced that Davila faces multiple charges, including felony aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated fleeing, and a misdemeanor count of resisting a police officer.
High-Speed Chase Across Villa Park Streets
Authorities said that around 4 a.m. on Sunday, Villa Park police officers spotted a 2021 Hyundai Palisade traveling on St. Charles Road — a vehicle that had reportedly fled from Cicero police earlier that night.
When officers attempted to stop the Hyundai, the driver — later identified as Davila — allegedly sped away, reaching 113 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone, creating an extreme danger for both officers and the public.
Officers Deploy Stop Sticks to End Pursuit
Police pursued the vehicle until officers deployed stop sticks, successfully disabling the car on Westmore Avenue. One responding officer used his squad car to pin the driver’s side door, preventing further escape.
Authorities reported that Davila and three unidentified passengers exited through the passenger doors and ran from the scene, prompting a foot chase.
Officer Punched During Foot Chase
During the chase, one officer caught up with Davila as he tried to jump over a fence. As the officer grabbed him, Davila allegedly punched the officer twice in the face before continuing to run.
Moments later, another assisting officer managed to arrest Davila, bringing the chaotic incident to an end. Fortunately, the injured officer was not seriously hurt and received medical attention at the scene.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
As per CBS News, Davila now faces:
- Felony aggravated battery to a police officer
- Felony aggravated fleeing
- Misdemeanor resisting a police officer
Officials said Davila remains in custody at the DuPage County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on December 1.
Prosecutor Condemns Reckless Behavior
In a statement, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin called the teen’s actions “a reckless disregard for human life and the law.”
“Driving at more than 100 miles per hour through residential streets while fleeing law enforcement shows a complete lack of respect for the safety of others,” Berlin said. “We are grateful that no one was killed or seriously injured.”
Authorities are still working to identify the three passengers who fled the scene and are urging anyone with information to contact the Villa Park Police Department.
Teen Remains in Custody
As of Tuesday, Aizik Davila remains behind bars, awaiting his next court appearance. His bail status has not yet been disclosed.
