West Bend, WI – A 20-year-old man from Milwaukee was arrested after an attempted armed robbery at a gas station in West Bend, Wisconsin, turned into a dramatic chase that ended with the suspect falling down a 20-foot drop and breaking his femur.
The incident began around 2 a.m. on August 28 when West Bend Police responded to reports of an attempted armed robbery at a gas station near West Washington Street and 18th Avenue.
Suspect Flees Scene
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses provided a description of the suspect, who fled on a bicycle before officers arrived.
Minutes later, a deputy spotted a man matching the description near West Washington Street and US Highway 45. When the deputy attempted to stop him, the suspect abandoned his bike and ran on foot.
20-Foot Drop Arrest
The chase ended when the suspect jumped a fence near West Washington and University. Unaware of the steep terrain on the other side, he fell approximately 20 feet and suffered a broken femur.
He was taken into custody immediately after the fall and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigation and Charges
The West Bend Police Department is leading the investigation and handling criminal charges related to the attempted armed robbery. No details regarding the weapon or stolen items were released as per WAGB.
