Indio-Coachella, CA – A high-speed car chase in Riverside County ended Wednesday afternoon with the arrest of a suspect who crashed into an uninvolved vehicle and fled on foot near the Indio-Coachella border, authorities reported.
Pursuit Begins
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said deputies attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop at approximately 4:00 p.m. in La Quinta, near Avenue 47 and Adams Street. The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, refused to comply with deputies’ commands, prompting a pursuit.
Deputies described the situation as dangerous due to the suspect’s erratic driving through residential areas. “When drivers ignore lawful orders, it endangers everyone on the road, including innocent bystanders,” a sheriff’s spokesperson said.
Crash and Foot Pursuit
The pursuit continued eastward until the suspect crashed into a vehicle that was not involved in the chase at Avenue 48 and Calhoun Street. After the collision, the suspect fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood, forcing deputies to initiate a search operation in the area, as per KESQ.
With the assistance of the Indio Police Department, deputies were able to locate and arrest the suspect. The sheriff’s office praised local residents and bystanders for staying clear of the chase and allowing officers to safely apprehend the individual.
Injuries and Vehicle Damage
The driver of the vehicle struck by the fleeing suspect was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Fortunately, no life-threatening injuries were reported, but authorities warned that high-speed chases like this one can lead to severe harm if bystanders are caught in the path.
The suspect’s vehicle also sustained significant damage, while the uninvolved motorist’s car was heavily impacted by the crash. Deputies closed eastbound Avenue 48 from Calhoun to Chapparosa Street temporarily while the scene was cleared and traffic control measures were enforced.
