A very special event, “Surviving Beautifully,” presented by the American Cancer Society, will take place this Sunday, September 28, 2014, in the Bethel Middle School auditorium, 600 Whittlesey Drive, Bethel, CT, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (doors open at 1:30 p.m.). This event will showcase cancer survivors from Bethel and nearby towns as they discuss how they overcame cancer and are thriving. Proceeds will benefit the Relay for Life of Bethel. Admission is: Adults, $10.00 / Children under age12, $5.00.

Kelly Stewart, coordinator of the “Surviving Beautifully” event, said she had participated in a similar event when she lived in California and she really enjoyed it, so she wanted to share her experience with the Survivors here in Bethel.

Stewart said, “I think it gives Survivors a chance to share something positive about their cancer experience. Having cancer is awful but overcoming cancer empowers you. The Survivors participating in the showcase have some interesting stories to share and they have certainly inspired me.”

“Most of the people participating are very excited to be a part of the showcase and share their story. A few are nervous being onstage, which is totally understandable,” Stewart said.

Stewart indicated that the reason Survivors want to participate in this event is that they want to inspire other people, to let them know that having cancer can actually bring blessings into your life that you never expected. “I think they are just happy to be here – to be alive and thriving and able to share their stories,” she said.

Be sure to attend this inspirational event and help support the Relay for Life of Bethel and the cause, to find a cure for cancer.
