New Jersey – More than 50 million Americans are expected to face frost and freeze warnings as temperatures plummet across the central and eastern United States by Friday morning, authorities said. The cold snap could send temperatures into the 20s in some regions, signaling an early end to the growing season in affected areas.

Frost and Freeze Alerts Across the Country

Meteorologists report that the frost and freeze warnings will extend from Southern Minnesota through central New Jersey. FOX Weather Meteorologist Dylan DeBruyn explained that the alert covers over 50 million Americans, warning of frosty conditions expected on Friday morning.

“A powerful cold front is allowing cool Canadian air to filter in behind it. Temperatures will drop 5–10 degrees below average and could drop below freezing into Friday morning. The drop below freezing, coupled with calm winds and clear skies, will allow frost to develop,”DeBruyn said as per The Post.

Tri-State Area and New Jersey Counties Affected

Several counties in New Jersey are under frost advisories, including western Monmouth, Mercer, Salem, Gloucester, Burlington, Ocean, Cumberland, and Atlantic counties. Temperatures in these areas are expected to drop into the mid to upper 30s by Friday morning, potentially threatening crops, gardens, and vegetation.

Officials note that frost and freeze conditions can mark the end of the growing season, as prolonged cold can damage or kill sensitive plants and vegetation.

New York City Weather Outlook

While New York City is not included in the official alerts, residents should still prepare for chilly conditions. Temperatures in the Big Apple are expected to dip into the mid-40s Friday and Saturday mornings. Weather experts note that the first frost in New York City typically occurs in mid-November, making this cold snap a notable early preview of winter.

“While New York City is not included in any alerts, lows into Friday and Saturday morning will be in the mid-40s, so residents should bundle up,” DeBruyn added.

What Residents Should Do

Authorities advise residents in affected areas to protect plants, cover sensitive vegetation, and prepare for potentially icy conditions during early morning hours. Farmers and gardeners are encouraged to take preventive measures to reduce crop damage.
